Fund Development Program
In an effort to uphold the high quality of care that St. Joseph's Hospital has been able to provide its residents since 1927, a formalized Fund Development Program has been initiated. The goal of this program is to supplement the current funding St. Joseph's receives from government sources, with much needed support from our friends and neighbors in the community.
St. Joseph's has been the recipient of an overwhelming amount of community support of both a monetary and non-monetary nature throughout its years in Edmonton. We thank all those who have contributed to helping St. Joseph's uphold the mission and values we live by each and every day. By instituting the Fund Development Program, we will not forget those individuals, families, businesses, and community groups that helped us get to this point, but rather build on this base of support to ensure we continue to serve our community to the best of our ability.
St. Joseph's is proud to offer a comprehensive Fund Development Program which gives the donor an opportunity to choose the method of giving a gift that best suits their needs. Please the Fund Development office, with any questions about the following options at (780) 431-5399.
Make a Donation On-Line Today
DONATE NOW For your convenience, we have made the option to give on-line available. Other than a nominal fee directed to the appropriate credit card company for the transaction, this service is free of charge for both the donor and St. Joseph's Hospital. Receipts used for income tax purposes are sent out to the donor electronically within minutes of making a donation on-line. By using this method to issue receipts, St. Joseph's saves the costs associated with issuing a hard copy receipt; and, in turn, a larger percentage of your donation goes directly to programs and services. To make an on-line donation right now, please click on the 'Donate Now' button below.

Monthly Giving
The Monthly Giving program allows our donors to demonstrate their support by making regular monthly gifts with a Visa card or post-dated cheque. Knowing in advance what donors will be giving from month to month is also beneficial to St. Joseph's because it allows for more accurate financial forecasting. A charitable receipt can be issued for income tax purposes at the end of the year which reflects all donations made during that year, or from month to month, whichever the donor prefers.
Corporate Support
We enjoy working very closely with each and every one of our corporate donors to develop a recognition program that will best fulfill the desires of the donor and St. Joseph's Hospital, as well as make the partnership mutually beneficial. Understanding that gifts, though philanthropic in nature, are often directed as a marketing tool, we endeavor to use all of our available resources to acknowledge it as such.
In Memoriam Gifts
By giving a gift in the memory of a family member, friend, or colleague, a card will be sent by St. Joseph's on your behalf acknowledging your thoughtful donation. A tax receipt will also be issued to you confirming the details of the donation.
Gifts in Celebration
To celebrate the birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion of someone close to you, you can make a donation to St. Joseph's in their honour, and a card will be sent to them by St. Joseph's on your behalf acknowledging your generous gift. A tax receipt will also be issued to you confirming the details of the donation.
Planned Giving
This method of giving is the integration of personal, financial, and estate planning concepts that result in higher level gifts, while providing tax benefits to you, the donor. Also referred to as 'deferred' giving, examples of planned gifts include life insurance proceeds, charitable remainder trusts, real estate, larger cash and personal property gifts, wills, etc. This is the most sophisticated fund raising method, with proceeds used to provide organizations with future financial stability. The details of a planned gift would be negotiated and outlined in concert with your lawyer and financial advisor.
Gift-in-Kind
In cases where donations received by St. Joseph's are forecast to be directed to the purchase of equipment or other capital, it may be more convenient or appropriate for the donor to give the actual equipment rather than the monetary donation. In these cases, the gift will be treated just as any other monetary donation with respect to recognition and tax benefits.
From time to time, St. Joseph's Hospital may be able to use the services of an individual, company, or group. Similar to a Gift-in-Kind, a Gift-of-Service is when the professional services are provided as a donation. If donated, this contribution will be treated just as any other monetary donation with respect to recognition.
Donor Recognition
The search to find a creative way to acknowledge donations made to St. Joseph's became a reality in 1997, our seventieth anniversary year, in the form of a tree that celebrates both life and giving. Metal leaves on the tree reflect natural earth tones of Gold, Burgundy, Copper, and Green. As the leaves are added, the colours complement the tree -- made of butternut wood -- to reflect the richness of colour and design seen in nature.
As donor names are added to one of the four leaf categories, a metal leaf will "grow" on the sculpture. Each leaf acknowledges an individual gift within a particular category or level of donation.
Our donor categories are:
Gold Leaf: Benefactor . . . Gifts of $10,000 or more
Burgundy Leaf: Patron . . . Gifts between $2,500 and $9,999
Copper Leaf: Sponsor . . . Gifts between $1,000 and $2,499
Green Leaf: Supporter . . . Gifts between $250 and $999
Oak Base Book: Friend . . . Gifts under $250
Names of donors within each leaf category are listed on the oak base unit.
The book also contains names of donors who provide:
- Gifts-in-kind
- Future (deferred) Gifts
Cumulative Giving: When donors provide more than one gift, their cumulative giving will be recognized by placing the donor's name in the next appropriate leaf category. The donor wall is updated periodically to reflect new gifts and cumulative giving.
